Short Hills Ranked #6 Gay Ghetto
July 7th, 2008 Categories: Buying a Home in NJ, Millburn & Short Hills Living
Short Hills, New Jersey was ranked sixth in the GLBT Gay Ghetto Top 10 based on their analysis of demographics and real estate sales data throughout the USA linking towns that are “most in vogue with the diverse GLBT community.”
Short Hills was tied with Dallas/Fort Worth
(Metuchen/Surrounding NJ was included…but for those not in the know, these two towns are too far enough apart and different to be grouped together…could they have meant Millburn?)
And I quote:
#6
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX & Short Hills/Metuchen/Surrounding, NJ
(2-Way Tie)
Dallas/Fort Worth has a relatively young population, a steady economy, a low cost of living, and one of the biggest commercial fashion and furniture districts in the USA. The “Big D” is also big in terms of GLBT communities that can be found throughout the sprawling city with a high concentration along Greenville Ave., Cedar Springs Road, and Oak Lawn Avenue. The Dallas gay Mecca converges in the gorgeous historic Turtle Creek area – home to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dallas Theater Center. Neighboring Fort Worth is a smaller city with big city GLBT amenities including its own gay film festival and rodeo.
Short Hills/Metuchen/Surrounding Areas Natural and historical beauty, vibrant downtown venues that retain quaint charms but exceptionally innovative restaurants and shops, the nationally recognized Paper Mill Playhouse, a first-class school system, and easy commutes into the Big Apple all conspire to make this area a uniquely awesome place to live. These valuable features have not been lost on the GLBT community that thrives in this Victorian-era central New Jersey enclave of restored antique homes and outstanding real estate investment opportunities.

Lunch at Samurai Sushi in Millburn, NJ
March 27th, 2008 Categories: Livingston Living, Maplewood Living, Millburn & Short Hills Living, NJ Dining Out
I’m not a big out-to-lunch kind of gal, however, I will always go out for Sushi.
The best deal in town is Samurai Sushi: in downtown Millburn, Maplewood Village and in Livingston, New Jersey. With three locations, you can always satisfy your craving as you drive around the area.
For only $8.95, their lunch special is fantastic: Miso Soup, Green Salad with a terrific sesame dressing and a choice of two roll…I am partial to salmon & avocado and yellowtail with scallion…both inside-out with brown rice.
My favorite, tho’ is the Samurai Salad: with tuna, salmon, whitefish, green seaweed, fish roe, white radish, cucumber, crabmeat with the chef’s Spicy sauce ($10.95)
My kids love to get the Beef Teriyaki Bento Box that comes with a California Roll, Shrimp Shumai, Green Salad, Miso Soup and (Brown) Rice ($9.95).
Their menu is extensive and you can’t go wrong with any choice. Be sure to checkout their “special rolls” on the board behind the sushi chefs…they are always creative with a unique Samurai Sushi Twist.

Why Use a Wholesale Mortgage Banker?
February 20th, 2008 Categories: Buying a Home in NJ, Millburn & Short Hills Living, NJ Mortgage Update
Consider using a Wholesale Mortgage Banker for your mortgage this Spring. Why?
Wholesale Mortgage Bankers have access to two distinct sources of mortgage money:
- Secondary Market:
This source of capital comes from investors that invest in mortgage backed securities. Loans are originated then sold to Wall Street banks, bundled into mortgage backed securities and sold.
If a particular loan fits within FNMA’s guidelines they are then sold to FNMA. Since FNMA loans are a large percentage of the overall mortgage market, their 30 yr fixed rate is often the standard when rates are quoted. These rates are driven by the appetite that investors have for buying mortgage backed securities. Their rates are totally market driven.
In the last two months, the market has driven those rates from 6.375%, down to 5.25% and back up to 6.5%. This is a reflection of investor’s outlook for the future value of mortgage backed securities. Read the rest of this entry »

Deer Hunt Closes South Mountain Reservation
January 26th, 2008 Categories: Millburn & Short Hills Living, NJ Events, South Orange Living
South Mountain Reservation is Closed Between Millburn and West Orange for a Deer Hunt.
Don’t plan on driving through the South Mountain on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 29-February 28, 2008. Trained Marksmen Will Be On Site to take care of the “Deer Problem.”
One of my fondest memories growing up in Short Hills was going to the Deer Paddock with my parents just off South Orange Ave between Old Short Hills Road and Brookside Drive. I loved to see “Bambi” and feed he and his brothers and sisters.
Now the deer are everywhere. The Essex County Deer Management Program is “taking care of the situation.” Needless to say, neighbors in Millburn, Short Hills, Maplewood, South Orange and West Orange are taking strong stands…on both sides.
What do you think?
ABC NEWS did a piece on Sharpshooters Protecting the Short Hills Mall (which is miles away from The Hunt)
