Oops! But, I Did Make an Appointment!

Rob Hahn, one of the smartest marketers and social media experts I know, wrote a piece on Blog Your War Stories:

This one time, at an open house...

After a recent Lucky Strike Social Media Club dinner — the very first one, as a matter of fact, in which the club was formed — I had the pleasure of riding in a car with two realestistas.  Sarah Bandy (@sarahbandy) and Perri Feldman (@perrifeldman) are two NJ-based realtors who are just a joy to be around.

As we were rolling down the NJ Turnpike, Sarah and Perri started telling tales from showings that went akimbo and other war stories.

…First, war stories are fun.  Sarah’s story about the homeowner whose cat was on the toilet doing what humans typically do on toilets during a showing drew howls of laughter from me.  Perri’s tale of the one showing she did where the sellers forgot about the appointment and decided to… ah… take a mutual lunch break… and were discovered in flagrante delicto — that’s a classic story.

I promised Rob to write about more.

In case you missed last year’s classic: The Ultimate Horror Story

Thousands of New Jersey adults and children need a new, warm coat each winter. Many are forced to make a choice between buying a winter coat and putting food on the table, or meeting other basic survival needs. We can’t ignore the headlines and wanted to create an event to teach our children the importance of sharing and lending a hand to those less fortunate than the residents of Millburn and Short Hills, NJ.

The House Burned Down 24 Hours B4 Closing!!!

House on FireEverything was in place. We were soooo close…

The house had been on the market for only two weeks. It was in disrepair and a wonderful investment opportunity for my buyer clients.  The home was moments away from foreclosure in a transitioning neighborhood with growth potential.

The buyers were able to pay cash for the property. No need to worry about current mortgage concerns.

    The offer was accepted.

And then it hit the fan…or so I thought.

There were two sets of owners. Each with their own lawyer. A judge had to get involved to resolve their individual rights. Needless to say it was messy. My buyers held their breath.

The judge agreed to the sale.

The banks agreed to the sale.

    The title search was clean.

    Mortgage payoffs were in place.

Tax lien payoffs were in place.

Time of the essence was served.

Time of the essence was extended.

    The seller found an apartment.

    Final monies were transferred.

All parties agreed on place and time of closing.

    Twenty-four hours to go…

    The call came at 8am.

    THE HOUSE BURNED DOWN

Fire engines took hours to get the house under control. Thankfully, noone was hurt.

    There is nothing left.

You can’t make this stuff up!!!

Stay tuned…don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

New Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills

New Eyes for the Needy Short Hills NJNew Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills, New Jersey celebrates its 75th Anniversary this year. It is a wonderful non profit organization that purchases new prescription glasses for poor children and adults in the US and recycles donated glasses for distribution for people in need throughout the world.

ABC highlighted New Eyes for the Needy this past weekend with questions answered by Susan Dyckman, the executive director and Clelia Biamonti, the president of the Board of Trustees.

New Eyes for the Needy has provided nearly a half-million people with the glasses they so desperately need in the US as well as 56 Countries including Argentina, Cambodia, Ghanna, Morocco, Nigeria and Uganda.

Funding comes primarily through individual donations, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships and special events. They also have a jewelry and gift-ware re-sale showroom at their facility in Short Hills. Fabulous Finds is open Thursday afternoons and certain Saturdays during the school year and is completely volunteer run. The showroom contains estate and costume jewelry, watches, silver, crystal, china and gift-ware - all available at bargain prices because the merchandise is all donated to New Eyes for re-sale.

You can help New Eyes for the Needy by making a cash donation, donating your used eyeglasses, hearing aids, jewelry and gift-ware. A gift of just $60 will buy the glasses that can turn someone’s life around.

Donors can give right on New Eyes website, www.neweyesfortheneedy.org.

Meme’d: Who is Perri K. Feldman

Perri New HouseI just got Meme’d by Fedua “Sarah” Bandy, who just shared five tidbits about herself online…for the whole world to see.

I had no idea what a Meme was…but now I get it…it’s a chain letter in the cyber world. Wikipedia states it is a link from one person to another.

Far be it for me to break the chain…so here goes:

    1. I am living less than 2 miles from where I grew up…and that’s more than just ok!

    2. Travel is our family passion and I spend a lot of late nights searching the web for great deals.Alta

    3. My family loves to ski. I try to keep up, but, alas I am always the caboose.

    4. Living in Los Angeles in the Eighties, working for Warner Bros. Film, was definitely “cool.”

    5. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. I believe in making your own opportunities.

Ok, now it is my turn…TAG YOU ARE IT!!!

Best Places for Sledding in Essex County NJ

    Sledding is Fun!!!It’s SNOWING!!!!

Pull out the boots and gloves, grab the sled, load up the car and head for the best places for sledding before anyone else gets there!!!!

Since I was a little girl, my three favorite places to go sledding in Essex County were at:

    1. The top of Francis A. Byrne Golf Course at 1100 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange. The walk from the parking lot was always a killer, but once you were there it was great…and not very crowded.

    2. South Mountain Reservation. Drive along Brookside Dr. between Glen and South Orange Ave. and you will see cars parked along the way. Try to find a spot and grab your toboggan for a glide through a winter wonderland.

               Map of South Mountain Reservation

    3. Cameron Field in Meadowland Park just below North Ridgewood Ave and above South Orange Village. You can park at the top or the bottom of the hill…watch out for people walking up for their next ride as you fly down fast and furious.

Don’t forget to load up on hot Chocolate!!!

    Where is your favorite place?
