Twenty Percent Millburn 2009 Senior Class Receive National Merit Honors
September 20th, 2008 Categories: Education in NJ, Millburn & Short Hills Living
Richard L. Brodow, Millburn NJ Superintendent of Schools, said last week: ”We couldn’t be more proud of our students” as word came in that fifteen senior from Millburn High School have been selected as semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Competition.Â
In addition, 49 students qualified as recipients of Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. The combined total number of honored students (64) represents 20% of the entire senior class…the highest total in the history of the school district.
That is quite an accomplishment given that more than 1.5 million students in nearly 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the program by taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of 16,000 Semifinalists includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. These students now qualify to be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, which will be announced in February 2009.
Congratulations and best of luck for the February 2009 Merit Scholarship announcement.

Millburn High School Ranked #1 in NJ
August 22nd, 2008 Categories: Education in NJ, Millburn & Short Hills Living
Millburn High School is ranked the Number #1 High School in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly .
Why?
“After placing eleventh in the 2004 New Jersey Monthly high school rankings, and third in 2006, Millburn High School earned the top spot this year, in large part due to its students’ impressive test performances. Millburn outranked the state’s 315 other high schools on average SAT score and performance on the state-mandated High School Proficiency Assessment.
Among the 2008 seniors, 97 percent are set to attend four-year colleges, including 29 who are Ivy League-bound. In addition to being ranked among the top U.S. high schools by Newsweek, US News and World Report, and the Wall Street Journal, Millburn High has been named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, the highest award a school can receive.”
Millburn High School holds fond memories for me. Principal William Myron was in my own graduating class and head guidance counselor, Nancy Siegel helped me through my own college process. The courses offered have always been terrific. I was fortunate to take Russian Literature, Existentialism and AP History “way back when.”
As we all return home with tears in our eyes from dropping off our college Freshman (Syracuse), we know Millburn High School has prepared them well for what lies ahead.
